GEOG 4220/5220: Applied Retail Geography This joint undergraduate/graduate course is an introduction to the concepts, models and methods used by geographers working in an applied retail location environment. This course assumes a solid grasp of the foundations of human geography, gained through GEOG 1170 or GEOG 1200. Beginning where these foundational courses end, this course focuses particularly on the intersection of urban and economic geography. The interplay of cities and their changing neighborhoods with the ongoing evolution of regional and national economies will form the central focus of this course. Retail businesses in particular need to understand how cities are evolving so they can make effective plans for future investment decisions. We will see how geographers are making a contribution to solving some of the most important issues that face commercial businesses and cities today.
